What’s New at Homestead Heritage?

Homestead Heritage continues to grow with the recent additions of the Homestead Market and the Aquaponics Greenhouse.

Fresh produce from the new Homestead Aquaponics greenhouse is already being served at Cafe Homestead, and will also be available at the brand new Homestead Market. The aquaponics greenhouse features several types of grow beds, media beds, floating rafts and wicking beds and a 4,500 gallon main fish tank as well as a few smaller ones. Aquaponics is a system of aquaculture in which the waste produced by farmed fish supplies the nutrients for plants grown hydroponically, which in turn purify the water.

The Homestead Market held their grand opening on December 13th. The market features foods that are as minimally processed and refined as possible, giving special priority to natural items from local and family operated gardens, farms, ranches, orchards, and dairies in the Heart of Texas.

In addition to regularly available seasonal produce, the market will offer a selection of locally raised, grass-fed and all-natural beef, lamb, chicken, fish and farm eggs.  They also carry organic milk, butter, cream, grains and cerials, herbs, spices, condiments, canned goods, specialty foods, natural cleaning supplies and much more.

Don’t forget to check out all of the handmade items at The Barn, baked goods at Cafe Homestead, wonderful selection of locally made cheese at Brazos Valley Cheese, and more.

Homestead Heritage is open from 9 am – 6 pm, Monday through Saturday. The new market is located at 169 Halbert Lane. Click here for directions.
