Museum Grand Opening! June 20
The grand opening for the History of West Museum is June 20th at 10:00 a.m. The museum is located at 112 Oak Street in downtown West, TX. The public is invited and admission is free.
The museum, housed in an 1896 building in downtown West, is a labor of love. You’ll see much more than the Czech heritage that community is well known for. Get a glimpse of West through the West News, which chronicled events in the community for over 100 years, or picture the city through the eyes of three generations of photographers in the Urbanovsky Studio Gallery. Learn about the first families of West, the impact of Czech culture on the community, the agricultural and farming heritage, military and veterans, and the tragic fertilizer plant explosion of 2013. Visitors can explore their roots among the photos and stories in the Ancestor’s Gallery and visit the Memorial Gallery dedicated to the heroes of the April 17, 2013 Fertilizer Plant explosion.
Following the grand opening, the museum will be open each Thursday – Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free, however donations are accepted.
