Texas Music Cafe

Texas Music Cafe®: Where Music Lives, Legends are Born, Stories are Told, and History is Recorded.

Since its inception in 1997, Texas Music Cafe® has stood as a beacon for music lovers and aspiring artists alike. Founded by the visionary Ermoian Brothers—Chris, TJ, and Jeff—alongside a passionate collective of Waco artists and musicians, Texas Music Cafe® was born from a shared ambition to shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the music world. Within just one month of its founding, Chris Ermoian had orchestrated the birth of a phenomenon, securing a studio, rallying sponsors, gathering artists, and producing the inaugural show. This rapid mobilization bore fruit when PBS recognized the potential of Texas Music Cafe®, granting it a platform that would reach 94 million households weekly.

Our Mission

At the heart of Texas Music Cafe® is a mission that resonates with every chord played and every note sung: to create music history in real-time with rising stars and Lone Star legends while exporting Waco to the world. This guiding principle has not only shaped our approach to showcasing talent but has also cemented our commitment to providing a stage for voices that deserve to be heard.

A Journey Through Music

Over the years, Texas Music Cafe® has evolved into more than just a TV show; it has become a historical archive, a community, and a launchpad for artists. With more than 10,000 hours of audio and video recordings, Texas Music Cafe® boasts one of Texas’ largest and most diverse collections of musical treasures. Our programming has captivated audiences both nationally, through PBS, and internationally via The Armed Forces Radio and Television Services (AFRTS), reaching service members and their families in 167 foreign countries.

In 2014, we deepened our roots in music history by partnering with The Center for Texas Music History at Texas State University, recording an entire season at the iconic Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos—a project that earned us two Telly Awards. The digital age has seen us adapt and thrive, transitioning the bulk bulk of our programming to YouTube in 2015 to connect with a global audience. Throughout the 2020 pandemic, we stood by our artists, employing over 50 creators to produce new episodes from archival footage, which aired on ABC TV.

Looking Ahead

Today, Texas Music Cafe® continues to champion the rich tapestry of sounds that define and transcend Texas. Our recent launch of a songwriter showcase underscores our ongoing dedication to nurturing talent, providing exposure, and supporting nonprofit organizations. Recognized on the State of Texas Historical Register, Texas Music Cafe® is a testament to the enduring power of music to bring people together, tell stories, and celebrate heritage.
