Waco Featured on CSpan’s Book TV & American History Channels
C-SPAN’s crew spent a week in Waco last month filming a segment for their “Cities Tour” series. Film crews visited several museums and historical sites and interviewed local civic leaders and authors. While in the Heart of Texas, the crew visited museums including the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum and Dr Pepper Musuem, and gathered interviews and information about Waco History at Baylor’s Texas Collection & Black Gospel Music Collection, conducted interviews about the 1953 tornado, and visited historic sites including the Waco Suspension Bridge and Branch Davidian compound. The Waco segments will run December 6th & 7th on Book TV (C-Span2) & American History TV (C-Span3). Segments will also be viewable online at www.c-span.org/LocalContent .
C-SPAN’s Cities Tour takes Book TV and American History TV on the road. The series features the literary life and history of a selected city. Using their specially outfitted Local Content Vehicles (LCVs), the C-Span crew spends several days in each city, visiting various literary and historic sites and interviewing local historians, authors, and civic leaders. The crew also meets with students, teachers, elected officials, and organizations to talk about C-SPAN’s mission in covering public affairs programming, and what the local connections are to national politics.
Other Texas cities featured on the series include Beaumont in 2012, and Austin, Corpus Christi, and Galveston will be featured in 2015.
