The Hammer That Shapes Reality: New Exhibition at Martin Museum of Art

“ART IS NOT A MIRROR TO REFLECT REALITY, BUT A HAMMER TO SHAPE IT”

– Käthe Kollwitz and the Fortress Against Death

Kollwitz remained committed to sharing art with social purpose, largely focusing on the deep biological connection between mother and child, and the vulnerability of this relationship, as threatened by violence, war, and famine. Join the Martin as we share our selection of Kollwitz works from the permanent collection along with works on loan from the Blanton Museum of Art, University of Texas at Austin. The Hammer that Shapes Reality exhibition now open through November 10th, 2024.
