Lone Star Luncheon Featuring Joe Greene
NFL Pittsburgh Steelers great and Central Texas native Joe Greene will be the guest speaker at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame (TSHOF) on Wednesday, July 24, for the TSHOF’s next Lone Star Luncheon. The luncheon will be moderated by long-time NFL Writer and media hall of famer John McClain.
A Temple, Texas native, Greene first gained national attention at North Texas State where he led the “Mean Green” to a three-year record of 23-5-1 and was named consensus All-American. In 1969 “Mean Joe” was the No. 1 draft choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers and by the end of his first season, he was named Rookie of the Year.
One of the NFL players ever, Greene was an intimidating defensive end on Pittsburgh’s vaunted “Steel Curtain” defense that won four Super Bowls (1974, ‘75, ‘78 & ‘79) in just six years. He was an eight-time All-Pro and a ten-time Pro Bowler during his 13-year career in Pittsburgh. Greene was also voted to the NFL’s 75th Anniversary and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams. He was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987.
Individual tickets for the luncheon are $100. A table of eight is $750. A limited number of premium tables are $1,000 and presenting sponsor opportunities start at $2,500.
